Privacy Policy

Last updated:

1. Who We Are

DebtShield ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website at debtshield.app and related mobile applications. We provide a tool that helps consumers identify potential issues in debt collection letters for informational purposes only. We are not a law firm and do not provide legal advice.

2. Information We Collect

We may collect the following categories of information:

  • Images and documents you upload — photos or PDFs of debt collection letters you submit for scanning.
  • Contact information — your email address and/or ZIP code, if you choose to provide them.
  • Usage data — technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device information, and pages visited, collected automatically when you use our service.
  • Communications — if you contact us directly, we may retain those communications.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Analyze your uploaded documents to identify potential compliance issues
  • Provide informational scan results
  • Send you your scan results via email (if provided)
  • Connect you with consumer protection attorneys (only if you explicitly request this)
  • Improve our service and user experience
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your uploaded documents or personal data with third parties except as described in this policy.

4. Attorney Referrals

If you choose to connect with an attorney through our service, we will share your name, contact information, and scan results with that attorney or their firm. This sharing occurs only with your explicit consent. Attorneys in our network are independent third parties, not employees of DebtShield.

5. Data Retention and Deletion

Uploaded letter images and associated personal data are retained for no longer than necessary to provide the service. You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us at privacy@debtshield.app. We will honor deletion requests within 30 days.

6. Security

We use industry-standard encryption (TLS/HTTPS) for all data in transit. Uploaded documents are stored with encryption at rest. However, no system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security of your information.

7. Cookies and Analytics

We may use cookies and similar tracking technologies to understand how our service is used. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though this may affect functionality. We may use privacy-respecting analytics tools to measure usage patterns.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights including:

  • The right to access the personal data we hold about you
  • The right to correct inaccurate information
  • The right to request deletion of your data
  • The right to opt out of certain uses of your data
  • For California residents: rights under the CCPA, including the right to know, delete, and opt out of sale of personal information

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@debtshield.app.

9. Children's Privacy

Our service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us immediately.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on this page with a revised date. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
